Microsoft has announced that its current group of in-house games will be employing Smart Delivery to capitalize on the performance of Xbox Series X. CD Projekt Red has indicated that those who will buy a Cyberpunk 2077 copy on Xbox One will have free access to Xbox Series X games.

Gamers will not pay for upgrades if they have Cyberpunk 2077

According to CD Projekt Red, those who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 will not be forced to pay for upgrades or buy the same game again. This means one can purchase Xbox One is aware that there will be an improvement once the Series X arrives. Therefore gamers will be able to play the upcoming sci-fi RPG on Xbox Series X without paying for an upgrade for those currently having Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One.

Microsoft has indicated that around four generations of Xbox games are likely to be compatible with the Xbox Series X. the Smart Delivery tech will ensure gamers buy titles once to play on any Xbox console they want.

More games titles to receive upgrades

Equally, there is also a host of games lined up for similar upgrades. For instance, Ubisoft has indicated that it will avail Rainbow Six: Siege for Series X once the console launches. However, they have promised cross-generational play which means that one will use the same core game. Although there is no guarantee that all popular games will get this type of treatment, there is a possibility that many titles might.

Sony has indicated that backward compatibility will be vital in transitioning of gamers to PS5 in a seamless and faster manner. Interestingly there might be a possibility of some PS4 titles getting a PS5 patch some time.

It is, however, unclear whether the current upgrade is a backward compatible Cyberpunk 2077 version or it will be a complete next-generation port specifically meant for Xbox Series X and PS5. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will not be available on the upcoming consoles that will launch on the holiday season.
