Welcome to the dark side of knowledge, where we look at the most potent weapons in the world that humans have developed out of their expanding knowledge of science and technology.

They say knowledge is a double-edged sword because it is responsible for good and evil in the world. Did you know that the most significant nuclear bombs that exist today can obliterate all life on earth multiple times over if detonated all at once? Just let that sink in. The destructive power of some of those weapons, especially the atomic bomb, was demonstrated decades ago, and let’s say that it is not something that anyone wants to see ever again.

As we embark on identifying the most powerful weapons in the world, you will also get to know who has the most powerful weapon in the world. Most of them are in the hands of the military, and you might also want to check out the most powerful military weapons in the world. Also, the chances are that the most powerful weapons are also under the custody of the most powerful countries in the world. It is scary because what if some of these countries decide to go to war with other countries?

Some of the weapons manufacturing companies listed in U.S exchanges include General Dynamics, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman among others.

So guess what, you are about to learn about the most important weapons that mankind has ever made. However, it is important you understand why they are considered the most powerful. The weapons in our list are here simply due to their destructive capacity. Our tenth can take out a tank or tens of foot soldiers while the out top spot can decimate an entire city such as London, killing millions instantly with its 22-mile blast radius.

We also visited websites such as warhistoryonline.com and armytechnology.com as part of our research. Also, the higher ranking weapons also happen to be more sophisticated or technologically advanced such as the targeted bombs, making them more efficient.

Take a look at our latest list of the top 10 most powerful weapons in the world:

10. The Rocket Propelled Grenade

If you have ever played a Call of Duty or Battlefield game, then the chances are that you know how vital an RPG can be to your strategy or how annoying and destructive they can be when in the hands of the enemy. The RPG was developed as an anti-tank weapon, which means that it is an armor-piercing piece of kit that can also easily obliterate an aircraft when used accurately. It can even kill multiple targets clustered together or cause massive damage to a house or building.

9. Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles

These are weaponized drones that can be flown remotely and they often carry missiles that can be targeted towards targets that are thousands of kilometers away. Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles have proved effective as stealth combat weapons especially since they can be deployed in enemy territories and since they are not piloted locally, there is no risk to the lives of pilots as opposed to manned combat planes. These weaponized drones have features such as long fight capabilities and are fitted with high-tech reconnaissance equipment that is used to carry out.

8. B2 Stealth Bomber

The B2 Bomber is an aircraft developed by the U.S as a stealth aircraft that has the capacity to bypass radar and anti-aircraft defenses so that it can deliver the payload in enemy territory. Even the design of this aircraft definitely shows that it is a no-nonsense plane. Only 21 of them were ever built and they were designed to be manned by two individuals. The fact that it has technology that allows it to enter an airbase undetected so that it can drop a bomb makes it one of the most powerful weapons.

7. Schwerer Gustav

It is one of the biggest weapons on this list in terms of physical size. It is a German weapon that was created back in the 1930s, and it was so big that it had to be mounted on a railway wagon. The main goal of this weapon was to destroy enemy forts. To put to perspective just how powerful this gun was, it weighed 1,350 tones once fully assembled, and it could shoot shells that weighed 7 tons. Each of the shells, once shot, could travel up to 47 kilometers. Imagine how powerful it was to shoot 7 tons to that far of a distance.

6. The Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier

It is one of the biggest aircraft carriers, measuring more than 1,000 feet long, which also makes it one of the biggest warships to dominate the oceans. It costs a whopping US$4.5 billion to make one of them, making it one of the most expensive military warships. They are powered by two nuclear reactors and can travel at speeds of more than 30 knots.

5. The Chimera virus

It is perhaps the peak of biological warfare and is the most dangerous bioweapon ever created. This virus was developed by combining the DNA of multiple viruses, forming a superbug that cannot be cured by any known vaccines or treatments. It means exposure to the Chimera leads to certain death, making it quite dangerous.

4. The Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power

A weapon with an unusual name but nonetheless one that attempts to paint a picture of just how dangerous this weapon is. It is also known as the “Father of All Bombs” (FOAB). It is considered to be four times more powerful than the biggest non-nuclear bomb owned by the U.S military. Its blast capacity is equivalent to 44 tons of TNT, yet it only makes use of 7 tons of highly explosive material. It means that it is one of the most powerful bombs in the world.

3. The Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM)

It is a massive target-guided ballistic missile that has a minimum range of 3,400 miles and was mainly developed to transport nuclear warheads. ICBMs can be launched from submarines, vehicles, airplanes, and missile silos. This kind of flexibility means that the ICBM is one of the most powerful military weapons in the world.

2. Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV)

The MIRV refers to a ballistic missile payload that consists of multiple that features numerous payloads, each of which can be guided towards a particular target. This weapon represents an evolution in the multiple re-entry vehicle missiles, which was initially able to carry various warheads without any specific targeting system. It means that it was not as effective, but the MIRV fixes that.

1. Tsar Bomba

The Soviet Union built this bomb in response to the U.S nuclear program. The Tsar Bomba was designed to obliterate everything. To put its capacity to perspective, the most powerful nuclear device created by the U.S had a blast equivalent to 25 megatons of TNT while the Tsar Bomba’s blast capacity is equal to 100 megatons of TNT. That makes it the most powerful weapon in the world.
