If you plan to go on a vacation on a budget, you need to hunt for discounted prices, and discounted flight tickets represent one of the areas where you can save some cash.

Hunting for discounted flight tickets is now easier than ever, thanks to online travel agencies, discount providers, and the internet. The trifecta means that there is a wide price range available to customers and the potential to secure cheaper ticket prices, allowing you to save some cash.

How to take advantage of lower prices

You have to understand how the system works so that you can take advantage of it. You will secure cheaper flights if you book a ticket four months to three weeks before the flight. Also, consider factors such as peak and off-peak seasons. Tickets tend to be more expensive during the holidays.

CheapAir.com conducted a study through which it analyzed ticket prices from millions of flights in 8000 markets. They discovered that ticket prices tend to fluctuate depending on the amount of time between ticket booking and the actual flight. They also found that seasons are a significant reason for flight fluctuations.

The different booking windows

  • 21 to 115 days in advance- This is the best time to book a flight because ticket prices are 5 percent within the lowest price. It is the best factor to consider if you are on the hunt for bargains.
  • 116 to 202 days before the flight- Ticket prices are usually higher than the lowest price by around $20 if you book within this window instead of waiting for the lowest prices. The good thing is that you can still access good seats if you are within this range.
  • 203 to 315 days before the flight will require you to pay a $50 premium compared to the lowest price. However, that premium might be worth it because this is the booking window where you will likely get the best seats.
  • Flight day to 20 days in advance is when you should avoid booking if you are a bargain hunter because prices are guaranteed to increase within this period.
