Google is one of the biggest tech companies in the world today, with more than 1 billion photo users. However, just like any other business, it has its high and low moments, the latter having been experienced between November 21 and November 25, 2019. The search giant has confessed having sent out isolated videos to unfamiliar people. This was occasioned by a technical issue according to a report by 9to5Google, and the most affected were the users of Google Takeout service.
It was an error, and we have rectified; says Goggle
According to the Silicon Company, what was sent out in error was less than 0.01 percent of its more than 1 billion photos. It is still not clear how many people were affected neither the number of videos distributed incorrectly. But even though it sounds like a small percentage, speculations are that it must have had a significant impact.
Nonetheless, after five days of fixing the issue, Google has apologized. In a statement, a Google spokesperson explained, “We are notifying people about a bug that may have affected users who used Google Takeout to export their Google Photos content… These users may have received either an incomplete archive or videos — not photos — that were not theirs. We fixed the underlying issue and have conducted an in-depth analysis to help prevent this from ever happening again…’’
But how does Google Takeout service work?
The handy application enables its users to download data and images into a Zip file. It has the option of creating several backups, edit videos, or rebuilds contact lists. It is considered secure storage easy to operate and access from any location with an internet connection.
The application also allows the user to download books, clear space on Google drive, and also relocate huge files. The service accommodates 47 different kinds of data.
How do you access it?
You must be signed in into your Google account and be able to access the Google Dashboard before moving to Google’s Takeout page. On this, you need to pick one item even though Google Takeout would select everything on the archive. You can uncheck what you don’t need, and the rest of the prompts are clear until you can create an archive.
